Return to Player (RTP) and Volatility
The return-to-player percentage in Ghost Ship is 95%, which isn’t bad but isn’t particularly high for an online slot game as they often exceed 98%. But 95% is still enough to ensure you may have a chance of getting some of your money back.
Or at least that’s what you would think if the game wasn’t a high volatility progressive slot. This means that the game’s randomness is at an all-time high. Regular payouts are unlikely, and big wins could happen at any second. Depending on what time of player you are, this could either put you off or entice you.
Personally, the game has been out for a few years, and we haven’t seen the jackpot get to grand numbers. So, it is definitely a turnoff for us.
Design
Ghost Ship is a progressive slot with a 5×3 board and 25 paylines, which is not exactly unexpected from Realtime Gaming. It isn’t very innovative in this respect.
Concerning the art style, the game looks good enough to get you into the whole pirate-theme feel. They’ve borrowed a lot from Captain Jack Sparrow from the Pirates of the Caribbean film series in character imagery.
Depending on how you feel about that film series, this will either make you keener to play the game or annoy you.
Gameplay
Here is all you need to know about playing Ghost Ship online:
Symbols
Ghost Ship has a combination of poker and theme-related symbols. Some of the theme-inspired imagery includes a treasure chest, a mermaid statue, a bell, a cannon, the Jack Sparrow look-alike pirate, and the ghost ship itself.
The Jack Sparrow look-alike acts as the wild and shoots at the screen every time he helps you finish a winning combination. The ghost ship is the game scatters, which is used to activate the bonus mode.
Bet Range
Ghost Ship has a large bet range with a minimum bet set at 0.01c per line and the maximum set at around $155. This is because the maximum coin size is 0.25c, and the maximum number of coins you can play at once is 25.
So, the game has a betting range that should meet the needs of most players. Just remember that if you bet pennies, you are going to win pennies. But you also shouldn’t bet outside your wallet.
Bonus Features
Ghost Ship isn’t an innovative game. There is one major bonus feature – the free spins bonus. You activate this bonus by landing three scatter symbols on the reels. You will be rewarded with two free spins for each scatter and wild that appears on the screen.
This means you get at least 6 free spins when you activate this mode. You can earn a maximum of 40 free spins if you land all wilds and scatters available in the game on the reels.
If you activate the bonus mode with all five scatter symbols, all your winnings during the mode will be multiplied by a 10x multiplier. This is a wonderful extra that could see you earn loads of cash if you are lucky!
Ghost Ship Final Rating
Ghost Ship is a good game, but it has its drawbacks. We like the pirate-theme as it inspires ideas of adventure, which is always exciting. However, we don’t like that the game is highly volatile or shows little innovation in bonus features.
Also, the game only seems to offer small jackpots. We don’t think the prizes warrant dealing with the title’s highly-volatile nature, so that’s another point against it.
Overall, we decided to rate Ghost Ship three out of five. It’s a fun game, but there are better options out there.
