indiana casinosIndiana Casinos are available at almost all locations including East Chicago, Florence, Gary, Michigan City, Lawrenceburg, French Lick, Anderson, Hammond, Elizabeth, Shelbyville, Evansville, and Rising Sun. Indiana is well known to be a conservative Midwestern USA state with widespread gambling. It all began with a state lottery in 1988. Bingo then quickly followed. Racing was then legalized in the 1990s. Off-track gambling was launched a year after. Indiana casinos were official in 1993, and like most states at the time, casinos had to be located on the water. Ohio River and Lake Michigan are the common waterways where riverboat casinos are situated. This law was relaxed when racetracks were allowed to offer video poker and slots.

Indiana Gambling History

The history of Indiana gambling and casinos is shorter than in other states. Indiana voters accepted a lottery on November 8, 1988. It is named the Hoosier Lottery. The first prompt game ticket was sold in October 13, 1989. The first lotto gambling game began in April 1990.

The guidelines of horse racing started on the 1st of September, 1994. That is when Hoosier Park launched. Off-track betting was then legalized the following year. The second track, Indiana Downs, opened its doors on December 6, 2002. In 2007, Indiana casino gambling was expanded to both operating racetracks. This placed 2,000 slots and video poker machines at Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs.
