There are over 60 casinos in Oklahoma. All the casinos in Oklahoma City are tribal casinos whose gambling compacts technically expired in January 2020 according to gambling compacts signed over 10 years ago. Some of the tribes running these casinos were in a legal battle against Oklahoma Governor over the renewal of these Oklahoma gambling compacts. The gambling compact state, “this compact shall have a term which will expire on January 1, 2020,”. However there is a provision for auto-renewal for casinos that operate more than just horse racing “if organization licensees or others are authorized to conduct electronic gaming in any form other than pari-mutuel wagering on live horse racing pursuant to any governmental action of the state or court order following the effective date of this Compact, the Compact shall automatically renew for successive additional fifteen-year terms;”

Gambling in Oklahoma
Besides the 63 casinos available to OK residents, there are more legal forms of gambling available in the state. The gambling laws do not have specific mention sports betting, but the legal definition of commercial gambling covers what sports betting is essential – and commercial gambling is illegal. Only tribal casinos are sanctioned to offer to gamble. There was a sports betting bill that the state governor approved in 2018, but nothing has come of it yet. Sports betting is still illegal.
