Unibet Withdrew their Appeal of Dutch Gambling Watchdog Penalty
Unibet, one of the leading brands of web gambling operator Kindred Group, withdrew their objection to the six-figure fine that was slapped to them by the Netherlands Gambling Authority. The move means the financial fine has become binding and that Unibet’s parent firm has perhaps paid it or maybe plans to pay it.
In August, Kansspelautoriteit, which is known to be the Dutch gambling watchdog, hit Unibet with a fine of €470,000. This was to punish the gaming operator for servicing Dutch gamblers. The fine was delivered after the regulator had conducted a probe into the well-known gaming and betting brand’s activities and had discovered a series of defilements of Dutch gambling regulations.
Unibet broke Dutch Gambling Regulations
Kansspelautoriteit discovered found that Unibet targeted local gaming clients between August and December 2018. Over that period Dutch gamblers and bettors were using the locally widespread payment option iDEAL to move their funds to and from gamin accounts they had with Unibet. Also, the betting site offered players support in the Dutch language and didn’t list the Netherlands as a restricted area. Dutch players were able to gamble on slots and the table games and also to wager on sports on Unibet.eu.
Back then, Unibet’s parent corporation moved to protest the fine, however, according to Kansspelautoriteit’s site, it withdrew its objection. The regulator’s website does not say when that took place, though. Unibet Looks to Join the Netherlands’ Regulated iGaming Space. Unibet withdrawing its protest to Kansspelautoriteit’s fine shows that the operative will look to be among the primary entries into the Netherlands’ regulated iGaming space.
The Dutch betting market was predicted to be open on January 1, 2021; however, it came last month that the launch of the first regulated internet gaming and bookmaking processes under Netherlands’ Remote Gambling Act pushed to mid-2021.
The delay was due to the Dutch government demanding more time to create a secondary web gambling legislation. Under the new timeline, the Netherlands’ refurbished gambling law that would cover the way for global companies to operate in a more regulated environment would take place on January 1, 2021.
